The painting Animals In Landscape is a vivid colourful piece by Franz Marc

Marc's belief was that animals were by far purer and more beautiful than man, this is also why much of his artistic career was spent painting animals.

This is in stark contrast to one of his peers; Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Buonarroti was influenced by the notion that beauty equated to God, there by making the human form the most beautiful and allowing god to reveal himself through it. Marc found himself being able to reveal the spirit of the animal through his paintings and in a sense they took on a life of their own.

If you look at more of march works you can see the familiar pattern that was used in Animals in Landscape. Bright bold colours and vivid landscapes combined to create a design that could draw the eye.

Although Marc's passion was animals he did from time to time paint abstracts and compositions but these are not often considered his finest work.

In 1907 Mac's career took a turning point when he came under the influence of Paul Cezanne, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. Out of the three Marc was mostly influenced by Van Gogh and it would be fair to say that the two were kindred spirits and bot viewed their passion in a religious and tortured way.

It is believed that by the time Marc painted Red horses he was reaching the full maturity of his craft, coloristic freedom and composition had become second nature to him.

If you compare Animals in the Landscape and Red Horses it is clear to see that there is a marked difference between the two styles even though Marc remained true to his usage of bold colours.
